Types of denture
- Partial dentures replace one or several teeth, and clip around your natural teeth.
- Full (complete) dentures replace all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw.
- Materials include acrylic, flexible acrylic and chrome (cobalt-chrome), which is thinner and lighter. Acrylic dentures are available on the NHS; some other materials are private.
- Implant-retained dentures clip onto dental implants, which can help a lower denture that won't stay in place.
Home visits
If you're a registered patient who is elderly, less mobile or has additional support needs, we can visit you at home. We also support local care homes with residents' dental care, including dentures. Ask us about home visits.
What happens
Assessment
We check your mouth and gums and talk about what you want from your denture.
Impressions
We take moulds of your mouth so the denture can be made to fit.
Try-in
You see and try the teeth in wax before the denture is finished, so you can comment on the look.
Fit and review
We fit the denture and see you again to ease any sore spots.
NHS or private?
Acrylic dentures are available on the NHS. Some materials, such as chrome or flexible dentures, may be private. Your dentist will always explain the options and give you a written estimate before treatment starts. How NHS charges and private fees work.
Questions people ask
Can you repair a broken denture?
Often, yes. Call us and we'll tell you what's possible. Bring the denture and any broken pieces.
Will my denture need replacing?
Gums and bone change shape over the years, so dentures usually need relining or remaking eventually. We check the fit at your check-ups.
