Fees and paying for your treatment

You'll always know the cost before treatment starts. Here's how NHS charges work in Scotland, who gets free treatment, and the private options we offer.

NHS

How NHS charges work in Scotland

Free

NHS dental examinations, for everyone in Scotland.

80%

of the NHS fee for treatment is what you pay, unless you're exempt.

£384

is the most you'll pay for one course of NHS treatment.

Who gets free NHS dental treatment

  • Everyone aged under 26
  • People who are pregnant or have given birth in the last 12 months
  • People with a certificate of exemption from patient charges because of their income or because they receive certain benefits

If you're exempt, please tell us and bring proof to your appointment. If you're on a low income, you may be able to get help through the NHS Low Income Scheme (form HC1).

The current NHS charges

NHS charges are set by the Scottish Government and change from time to time, so we link to the official list rather than copy it here.

Your options

NHS, private or Denplan: which is right for me?

At Bearsden Dental Care you can choose NHS care, private care, or a Denplan plan, and mix NHS and private for different treatments.

NHS

Treatment you need to keep your mouth healthy, at the charge set by the Scottish Government.

How you pay
Check-ups cost nothing. For treatment, you pay 80% of the NHS fee, and never more than £384 for a course of treatment, unless you're exempt.
What it covers
Examinations, X-rays, clinically needed hygiene, fillings, extractions, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and dentures.
Who it suits
Most of our patients, and everyone who qualifies for free NHS care, including all under-26s.

Private, pay as you goTo confirm

Pay item by item, with a wider choice of materials and treatments.

How you pay
We'll give you a written estimate. You pay for each item as you have it.
What it covers
All of our treatments, including those the NHS doesn't provide, such as implants, whitening and cosmetic tooth alignment.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a particular material or treatment, either alongside NHS care or instead of it.

To confirm: Would you like to publish a private fee guide ("from" prices)? We'll add one once you supply the figures.

DenplanTo confirm

Private dental care paid for by a fixed monthly Direct Debit.

How you pay
A set amount each month. The plan you choose decides what's included.
What it covers
Usually your routine check-ups and hygiene visits; some plans include routine treatment as well.
Who it suits
Regular attenders who prefer private care and like to know their monthly cost.

To confirm: Which Denplan plans do you offer (e.g. Denplan Care, Denplan Essentials), at which practice, and at what monthly fee band? We'll only state what you confirm.

Spreading the cost

Finance options are available for some private treatment. Ask us for details.

To confirm: Who is your finance provider, and are you an FCA-authorised credit broker or an appointed representative? We won't publish finance details until this is confirmed and the wording is approved.

Questions about fees

Why don't you list NHS prices here?

NHS charges are set by the Scottish Government and change from time to time. We link to NHS inform, which always has the current figures, so you never see an out-of-date price.

Can I mix NHS and private treatment?

Yes. Some patients have NHS care with a private option for one item, for example a different filling material. Your treatment plan will show clearly which parts are which.

Do I pay for missed appointments?

Please call us to check our current policy.
